Spanish Property Transactions 2019

According to the Statistical Information Center of the Spanish notaries, the number of property transactions in the fourth quarter 2019 in Spain has been stable at -0.3% in 1 year with 121,403 transactions of homes. In Catalonia, 19,703 sales have been signed – 0.7% compared to the same period in 2018. In Madrid, 21,955 property transactions -5.5%, in Andalusia 29,976 + 3.4%. We can anticipate a drop for the first quarter given the Coronavirus crisis.

Thus in 2019, 444 134 spanish property transactions were signed  -4% compared to 2018 where it was 462,870. In Catalonia, 72,489 property sales for 2019 -2% when 73 998 were signed in 2018. In Madrid, 68,893 in 2019 -9.5% when in 2018 there were 76 111. In Andalusia, 79 498 in 2019 -2.9% because in 2018 it was 81 867.

In the fourth quarter 2019, the percentage of property transactions financed by a mortgage was 50% in Spain, more important compared to 1 year ago with 78,254 mortgages + 13%. In Catalonia more mortgages with 12 475 + 15%, Madrid 15 554 + 10%, Andalusia with 14 450 mortgages + 15%

In 2019, the number of mortgages has been stable in Spain with 381,324, when there were 372,750 in 2018. In Catalonia, 65,348 mortgages + 4% with an average amount of 196,503 euros. In Madrid, 64,607 stable number of mortgages (71% of property transactions).
